Eli5 is a boutique product and software studio working on business-critical software for Startups, Corporate Innovators, Venture Builders, and GovTech. We’re small by design, giving us the freedom to work closely with clients for the long haul. Our projects often span years, helping us build meaningful relationships and products that make an actual difference.

We focus on products that enhance productivity, intuitive and pleasant user experiences, and refined but simplistic aesthetics. We approach projects with a tech-agnostic mindset, so we choose the tools that best fit the solution and the client’s organization. While we’re remote-first, we have an office in central Amsterdam for when in-person collaboration sparks better ideas.

The role of a Tech Lead at Eli5

As a Tech Lead, you’ll work alongside our CTO to design technical solutions, guide development teams, and actively contribute to coding efforts. You’ll oversee system architecture, ensure smooth collaboration between stakeholders, and elevate our engineering standards. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

• Managing end-to-end delivery of tech projects, from scoping to launch.
• Crafting and implementing scalable software architectures tailored to project needs.
• Writing high-quality code and contributing directly to our products and client projects.
• Leading technical decision-making and mentoring engineers on best practices.
• Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and clients to align on requirements.
• Conducting code reviews and ensuring maintainability and security across projects.
• Managing deployment strategies, CI/CD processes, and infrastructure considerations.

The essential stuff

We’re looking for someone who combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership and collaboration skills. This role requires a proactive, problem-solving mindset and the ability to drive technical excellence while ensuring smooth project delivery. Here’s what we’re specifically looking for:

• Experience managing end-to-end delivery of tech projects, from scoping to launch and scaling.
• Ability to align teams and ensure smooth collaboration between developers, designers, and clients.
• Strong capability in designing scalable solution architecture in collaboration with the team and presenting them to stakeholders.
• Experience in supporting the engineering team with high-level technical guidance and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in backend development using languages like Node.js, Python, Laravel, or Django.
• A thorough understanding of frontend frameworks like React, Next.js, or Vue.js.
• Experience with monitoring project progress, timelines, and budgets to ensure successful outcomes.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Ability to balance speed and quality in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic approach to tech decisions.
